Lesley Out:

I won't be in the library on Thurs (4/28) or Fri (4/29) this week. Scott's the resource for stuff that would usually come to me.

(wish me luck dress shopping with Amalia!)

Staff communication preferences post-it notes:

The communication requests that we each wrote down at our first workshop with Amanda are on one of the cabinets in the staff room.

Thanks for organizing, Mary-Ellen!

Self Check Out:
I changed some settings on the self check out computer to try and get it to stop giving the number not found in the database error. If it keeps happening please write down when it happens and to who and clip the note to my box.
If it does happen, you don’t need to restart the whole computer to
fix it, just close the window and reopen self check out by clicking on the self check out icon on the home screen

Get blog updates by email...

Turns out that Blogger no longer allows for regular email subscription. But, we can use something called "blogtrottr" (terrible name!) if you want to receive notification of new posts. I just barely signed up myself so I'm not sure exactly how it will work.

If you want to try it:

https://blogtrottr.com/

Put in the URL of the blog: https://wigginmlstaff.blogspot.com/

Put in your email address

It will probably offer subscriptions either via Atom or RSS -- it doesn't matter what you choose.

Welcome to the new staff updates blog. The intention (hope) is to collect all updates in one spot. You'll be able to look through past posts, search posts, and make comments. You can also "subscribe" to get a notification when a new post is added.

This is an experiment! Let me know what is working about it and what isn't.

Space Planning designs - Meeting Room (update)

I have set up plans in the meeting room (Mon. 4/18) until 11:30 am. I'm going to stay out of the way so that you can discuss with each other, or review on your own. There are pages down there to jot down ideas or questions.

I am very happy to come down to answer questions or just to hear your ideas. Let me know if you want me to look them over with you.

I can also watch the desk while you go down as a group or on your own!

Space Designs

Hi everyone,

I don't want to add extra meetings while we have the communications workshops, but do want to get the space plans in front of you to get your feedback, suggestions, concerns, questions, etc.

I'm going to set up plans in the meeting room a few different times next week and either Scott or I will be in the room to answer whatever questions we can and gather up everyone's thoughts.

I'm putting a copy of the designs into everyone's boxes. Feel free to draw and write on them -- that will help us pass information back to Placework.

Here are the meeting room times: It's great if a few people want to come at the same time so it is a bit of a discussion...
Monday, 4/18: 9 - 11:30
Tuesday, 4/19: 12 - 3:30
Wednesday, 4/20: 1 - 5
Thursday, 4/21: 11:30 - 4

Of course, it's also fine to talk to each other or have conversations as things come up. However this happens, I just need feedback, etc. written down (on plans is best!) so that I can compile it. I do think that a full group conversation is a good idea, but I do want to get some feedback sooner and then plan a group meeting later.

Attached the plans & a priorities doc as well as putting into boxes.

Emails from Lesley going astray...

Emails I'm sending from the wigginml@comcast.net account aren't reaching you all (except for Cindy!). It "seems" to be a Comcast issue. I'll be sending emails from my personal email: lesley.kimball

Org Chart

[thank you for reminding me, Mary-Ellen!]

I have gotten some questions from you all about the roles/responsibilities/org chart and it came up at this morning's workshop; I've been lax in just getting some information out. In the spirit of self-awareness, I know that I sometimes feel that I have to have all of the answers and details before sharing anything and I'm trying hard to break that behavior. I appreciate reminders!

I got input on a reconfigured org chart way back when (was that really 2020?) which led to the creation of the Digital Services Librarian position and the Head of Youth Services position. It also brought in the position of what I was calling Remote Adult Services. In part, we needed to update the org chart before we hired a new Assistant Director. Maybe you remember a couple of iterations with various reporting structures since then. And then in this budget season we added the page positions.

I neglected to do any follow-up/finalization with everyone on this. I apologize. We have new/updated job descriptions for each of the four new/reconfigured positions which can be found here: https://www.library.strathamnh.gov/staff. The rest of our job descriptions should also be reviewed and updated. Courtney and Scott are finalizing a Page job description now.

The org chart looks like this:

Red lines are reporting relationships. The person you report to will be doing the appraisal process with you and passing that up to me. I need to meet with Scott and Courtney to talk about how this process works and what the timeline will be for 2022. Also we should probably have a group conversation about the process in general (putting that note onto my calendar... probably in August after summer reading).

Related: The "work breakdown structure" that the BOT requested. This gives an approximate percentage of time that any position spends on various areas of work. Small image below; a link to a readable size is here: https://www.library.strathamnh.gov/staff

I hope this information can be a starting place for more conversation.

Personnel Policy status:
Current draft is going to labor lawyer next for review - especially regarding classifications (exempt/nonexempt, full time/part time). Susan Wilbur is the new Board chair and we have had a conversation about also reviewing the policy specifically with an eye to more "human resources" details. I know this has been a long and opaque process; I just wanted to give as much of an update as I have right now.

Public Health Emergency Policy:
the other policy that the Board starting reviewing late last year was adopted at the March meeting. It is posted on our website: https://www.library.strathamnh.gov/sites/g/files/vyhlif1291/f/uploads/healthcrisispolicy.pdf
I have attached the previously adopted version.

Saturday schedule:

I have put the schedule onto the calendar through July. This gets more tentative as we get to July since I don't yet know when we will have a new employee on board and ready to step into that rotation. I believe I have taken into account all of the requests for particular Saturdays; if I missed one please see if someone can switch. If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll figure it out.
