Space Planning:
What's happening? Placework put together several sketches that Scott and I have been playing with. We met with them last Wednesday to go over all of our notes (many!) and then to put together two draft plans that include as many of the improvements that we like as possible.

At the end of all this, the goal is to have a "master plan" showing where we would like to get to, and a couple of "phases" that we can implement along the way to that ideal vision. I'm not sure exactly when we will get to that point, or what additional steps are going to happen before we settle on a master plan to move forward with.

Some of our major priorities:
  • Better sight lines to public areas
  • Better sight lines between youth and adult service areas
  • More individual quiet work spaces of different types
  • Seating "nooks" spread throughout the library
  • Sound dampening solutions in various areas
  • More flexibility to rearrange areas/furniture in the future and as-needed now
  • Better access to activity room
  • After hours access to meeting room
  • Attractive entrance and curb appeal
  • Lower height shelving
  • Garden/patio more visible from inside library

That's a lot! Not all of these things will be able to happen, or at least not in a huge way, but these are things that are driving planning.

  1. Some of staff hasn't seen any of the plans for this. It was surprising to hear that members of the public were being asked to be on a committee to view the plans before they were shown to the staff.

  2. Sorry if this wasn't clear. The public hasn't seen the plans. First, hoping all of us will take a look and give feedback. Then the Board can also take a look.
